Best Christmas Gifts for Loved Ones in Assisted Living
on November 21st, 2017 in Holidays | No Comments
If you have a loved one in assisted living, you may be struggling to come up with a great gift for them this holiday season. It can be challenging finding just the right gift for anyone, but what do you choose for someone who doesn’t necessarily need anything and won’t necessarily tell you what they want?
We’ve put together a great list that you can use as a starting point when you are creating your gift-giving list.
The best thing about time is that it’s free. The next best thing is that most people don’t feel as if they get enough of it from the people they love. Giving the gift of your time to someone can be an absolutely amazing gift. Give it freely this holiday season.
2. Activity Books
If your loved one has grandchildren, give them a box full of activities that they can do when the little ones come to visit. You can fill a box with coloring books and crayons, activity books, small toys and more. Think of things that would be easy for both your loved one and the little ones to do together.
3. An iPod
Buy an iPod and load it with all your loved one’s favorite music. You can grab a “regular” iPod for about $50. It may be a good idea to purchase a speaker dock as well. They are fairly inexpensive and can be easier or more convenient for people to use than earbuds.
4. Electronic Photo Frames
These are great gifts for anyone, but especially those in an assisted living center. Your loved one is no longer forced to choose just one or two favorite photos, but they can load all of their favorites into a single frame and see them regularly. You can add photos to the frame or change what is loaded as your loved one wishes.
E-Readers can be great for anyone, but especially for those who love to read and may have a limited amount of space in which to store books. Your loved one can purchase any book they like and store it on their reader indefinitely — and the text size can be adjusted so your loved one doesn’t have to strain their eyes. You can also purchase books for your loved one and have them sent to the E-Reader. There are a variety of brands, so do your research and see which may be best suited for your loved one.
If you are looking for a great gift for a loved one in assisted living, don’t assume that the best is expensive. There are all types of gifts that you can give that cost virtually nothing. Get creative and personal. These are often the best gifts anyway.
