Resident Spotlight: Marion Vinson
on September 24th, 2014 in Dunwoody, GA | No Comments
Marion Vinson is our resident spotlight for September.
Born in Chicago Il., her father was a barber and her mom was in the home with Marion and her brother and sister. Marion’s mom recalls her drawing on the walls in the home, always chickens, always upside down. After learning to play the piano, Marion played for a children’s dance studio while in high school.
Marion was educated at AAA & AIC and became a commercial artist. After working in that field for a few years, Marion requested a leave of absence to work on a Dude Ranch in Wisconsin. There is where she met her husband Gene. He was a cowboy working as the furrier. He was also a writer, publisher and artist. After they married, they moved to Wickenburg, Az. to manage the Chamber of Commerce and created the newspaper ‘The Epitaph’. Gene was the editor, and Marion was the illustrator. Marion’s illustrations were used in newspapers, magazines’, coloring books that featured rodeos and the life of a Westerner.
Family vacations were enjoyed with Gene and their two children. They enjoyed roadside attractions, lakeside cabins, and out of the way places.
Another great accomplishment of Marion and Gene was the “Down River” magazine published by monthly. He was the editor, she the illustrator.
In later years, Marion would travel with her sister and mother. Her favorite destination was Venice, Italy. Pictured above is Marion with her sister Roselyn and Rose, her 106 year old mother attending our family night Love Boat Cruise.
We welcome Marion and all her many talents. She’s a great conversationalist with a welcoming smile, and an asset to our community.
