I grew up in:
Brewton, Alabama which is located half way between Mobile and Montgomery.
Some of my favorite memories from childhood are:
Playing with my siblings. I had a brother eighteen (18) months older, a sister 2 years younger, and another sister who was ten (10) years younger than me. This was during the Depression.
Some of my favorite memories from adulthood are:
Marrying my husband, who I met at the age of 14 or 15 years old.
Raising my three daughters.
We lived in Europe, in Italy, until we had to evacuate to Germany.
We also lived in Washington, D.C.
My Profession (s):
I was a hairdresser, trained while still in high school. My husband passed away in 1969 and I opened a beauty shop in Columbus, GA and retired in 1988. I loved my profession and did not want to retire.
U.S. Historical event memories:
My husband was in the Battle of the Bulge and was wounded twice.
On a Sunday afternoon, I was with cousins, one who was in the Navy and home on leave and we had been in the woods looking for a Christmas tree. When we arrived home we found out about the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
I was at work when I heard about the assassination of President Kennedy.
I was preparing breakfast when I heard the news about the planes hitting the World Trade Center and Pentagon. I could not believe it.
The accomplishments I feel most proud of would be:
Raising three healthy and successful children.
The lessons I have learned in life to share with someone just graduating college:
Don’t expect to get rich with your first job and the only way to success is by working hard.
What I have learned in life and wish to share with someone just starting a family is:
Love your children with all your heart. They are yours until you die. It is difficult not to give advice to your grown children.
I chose Dogwood Forest of Alpharetta because:
This is where my family wanted me to live after searching. We made the decision based on convenience and believing this would suit me and I would enjoy living here.
I enjoy Dogwood Forest as my home because:
It is comfortable. I love my room and the Veranda is quite nice. Also the food is improving.
My favorite part of living at Dogwood is
Same as above.
My best friends at Dogwood are:
My table mates, the Dolemans.
