Barbara StaplesWhere did you grow up? I was born on February 14, 1934 in Senoia, Georgia, but grew up in the Atlanta area. I had one sister; however, she passed away several years ago. I received a high school education graduating from Southwest DeKalb High School.

What are some of your favorite memories from your childhood? I remember when I was a child, going to visit my grandparents in Fairburn, Georgia. They lived on a farm, and my grandfather would do a lot of fun things with me. I remember my grandmother was a very good cook, and I would have good food to eat while visiting them.

What are some of your favorite memories from your adulthood? My favorite memories from my adulthood are related to my wonderful husband, Roy Staples. I met Roy in middle school. In 2011, we had been married for 60 years. Roy passed away in 2012. We had 4 sons. For the past 40 years, I have lived on a farm in Jackson, Georgia, and two of my sons live very close to my home.

Did you have a profession? My main occupation in life was as a housewife and mother. But I also worked for about 15 years as a secretary for an insurance company.

Which accomplishment in your life do you feel most proud? I am most proud of my 4 sons. They are all fine men with good jobs.

Is there anything you’ve learned in life you wish to share with someone who is just graduating college? Be patient and be obedient, and follow all of the rules and do what you are supposed to do. I taught my sons that if you decide to do something, then you need to complete it.

Is there anything you’ve learned in life you wish to share with someone who is just starting a family? Be patient, loving and kind to people.

What brought you do Dogwood Forest? My family noticed I had memory problems around 2010, as well as needing more assistance and supervision with activities of daily living.  They started looking at assisted living communities, and I moved to Dogwood Forest of Eagles Landing on February 14, 2015.  My family said that over time, they are sure that they made the right decision to place me in this community.
