One hundred years is a long time–equivalent to a century. Much has happened within the last 100 years. A man landed on the moon. We’ve gone from making the very first transcontinental 20150612_134322_resizedtelephone call in 1915 to having ways to stream live video and see on your mobile the face of the person you are speaking to. We’ve gone from messages via telegraph to instant messages directly to one or many via social media. Our world has changed tremendously in the last 100 years. While we all have read about it, could you imagine actually LIVING it?

Ms. McKenny, a resident at Dogwood Forest of Fayetteville,  has lived it! On Sunday, she joined the centenarians club. The New Orleans native was all smiles as she celebrated one hundred years of life on Sunday with her nieces, church and Dogwood Forest of Fayetteville family.  True to her hometown, her milestone birthday celebration was Mardi Gras themed.  She enjoyed all of the festivities  with food and drinks, and also received a letter from the Governor wishing her a Happy Birthday.

She was ecstatic over the celebration and said jokingly to the staff, “I always knew I was somebody, but I didn’t know you all knew that I was somebody.”
