Social isolation is a growing problem across all age groups, but particularly those aged 65 and older. People who experience social isolation often also experience mental health issues. Over the last three decades, people who express feeling lonely has doubled to 40 percent.

Nearly one-third of people over the age of 65 live alone. The number is even greater for those over 85. Close to 50 percent of these senior citizens live without the company of another human being. Those who are in poor health are the most likely to have feelings of loneliness and depression. Research has shown that this extreme loneliness can cause altered immune systems, inflammation, disrupted sleep and higher levels of stress.

Grayson, Georgia is a small town tucked away in the southeast corner of Gwinnett County. With a population of fewer than 3,000, the town is one in which everyone knows your name — including the mayor. Though it is only a 45-minute drive from Atlanta, the noise, light and air pollution is minimal. Ceremonial Groundbreaking held for Dogwood Forest of Grayson

Dogwood Forest of Grayson Assisted Living Groundbreaking held groundbreaking on Jan.14 in Grayson, Georgia.

Grayson City officials, developers and partners gathered on January 14th for the groundbreaking ceremony for Dogwood Forest of Grayson . Solomon Development Services along with partners Trinity Lifestyles Management, Grayson’s city mayor, Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, and others all spoke about the new community’s impact on the area and to perform the ceremonial dig. Prayer lead by Senior Pastor Steve Hammock and Minister of Senior Adult Ministry, John Hadley from Anchor Church closed out the ceremony.

The $26 million, 101,000-square-foot community will specialize in assisted living, memory care and adult day services. The community will have 99 units composed of 74 assisted living units and 25 memory care units.
