Resident Spotlight for Eagles Landing: Bettie Browning ONeal

Where did you grow up?

Bettie was born on August 9, 1930 in Jackson, Georgia.  She says that she grew up on a dairy farm.  She was the youngest of 6 children with 3 sisters and 2 brothers.  Today the 3 sisters are all living.  Bettie graduated from Jackson High School and then attended Asbury College in Kentucky before transferring to University of Georgia, where she earned a degree in Home Economics Education.

What are some of your favorite memories from your childhood?  Bettie says that some of her favorite childhood memories include washing milk bottles for her family diary business while growing up until she went away to college, following her father around the farm – especially riding on the combine – while harvesting wheat, attending Sunday School and Church with her family, and attending Camp Meeting with her … Read more...

Where did you grow up? Raymond states that he was born on December 24, 1939 in Porterdale, Georgia and he grew up in Porterdale and Conyers, and Milstead Georgia. He grew up the oldest child in family with 2 brothers and 1 sister and brothers and sister are all still living. Raymond graduated from South Gwinnett High School in 1958.

What are some of your favorite memories from your childhood? Raymond states that his favorite memories from childhood include playing and living in the country, playing sports, playing in the family barn and riding farm equipment on the farm and attending school.

Where did you grow up?: Rosalind was born on October 23, 1950 in Atlanta, Georgia. She grew up in the same area that she was born in.  She was the 4th oldest child and the first girl in a family with 6 brothers and 2 sisters.  Today she has 3 brothers and 2 sisters living.

Rosalind graduated from George Washington Carver High School and received an Associate’s degree in Secretarial Science and Bachelors of Arts degree from Georgia State University and has a Master’s degree in Special Education from Clark Atlanta University.

What are some of your favorite memories from your childhood?: Rosalind states that some of her favorite memories from her childhood included playing street ball with her brothers and sisters. Saluting our Veterans: Veterans Day 2014

Having lived through times of world unrest, many of our community’s residents have faced great challenges as well as triumphs as veterans of the armed forces. Their personal memories from their service are forever etched in their minds, and their unique experiences forever etched in the bowels of world history. Today, we look upon their service and dedication with great reverence and a thankful heart for their courageous sacrifices. November 11th marks this nation’s Veterans Day. A day to remember the many that have served. Today each of our communities honored our senior veterans with a Veterans Day service in partnership with local ROTC programs and active members of the military.

Where did you grow up?

Helen Bobick Sarik was born on September 25, 1927 in Central New Jersey. She grew up in the same area she was born in.  Helen grew up the youngest of 7 children with 3 sisters and 3 brothers.  She graduated from high school.

What are some of your favorite memories from your childhood?

Helen states that she remembers helping her mother with cooking favorite food items at home and at the church for church gatherings.  She also has good memories of playing and spending time with her brothers and sisters who all were close to each other in age. They loved spending time together and playing together.

Resident Spotlight: Annie Grier

Where did you grow up?  Annie grew up in Roanoke Alabama in a very rural area. Her father was a farmer and Annie remembers working on that farm picking cotton, milking the cow and doing other chores.  Annie was the next to the youngest daughter in a family of 5 girls.  When Annie graduated from high school she moved from Roanoke Alabama to LaGrange, Georgia to work in a cotton mill.

What are some of your favorite memories from your childhood?  Annie states that when she was growing up she had to work hard in her family’s fields chopping and picking cotton and so she didn’t have much time to play.  She does remember her Mother making a ball out of thread that she and her sisters played with.  Her mother would sometimes help them catch June bugs and tie … Read more...

Where did he grow up?

Bill was born on 3/28/18 on a farm near Tallassee, Alabama and he grew up in the same area that he was born in.  He grew up the oldest child in a family with 4 sisters and 4 brothers and today 3 sisters and 2 brothers are living.  With Bill being the oldest child he looked after and intervened and took care of all of his brothers and sisters and was always willing to help anyone in the family that needed help.  Bill went through the 12th grade in school and graduated.  Family states that for a time, he and siblings would have to walk 2 miles to and from school and then the school was moved and he had to ride the school bus to school and he felt lucky that he could ride … Read more...

Where did you grow up?:  Jo states that she was given the name Emma Jo Andrews and she was born on March 26, 1940 at Grady Hospital in Atlanta. She grew up in East Point and College Park, Georgia.  She was the youngest child in a family with 2 brothers and 1 sister.  She graduated from College Park High School and attended West Georgia College in Carrollton, Georgia, but only went to college for one year.

What are some of your favorite memories from your childhood?:  Jo states that growing up her  parents ran a flower shop in College Park that was close to a cemetery and so she had quiet neighbors. Resident Spotlight: Betty Gee Nunn

Where did you grow up? 

Betty was born in Baltimore Maryland on March 17, 1937 and she grew up in the same area that she was born in.  She grew up the oldest child with 3 sisters.  Today just the youngest sister is still living in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Betty attended and graduated from Coppen State University with a degree in education and received a Masters Degree in Education from Morgan State University.

What are some of your favorite memories from your childhood? 

Betty’s stories from her childhood centered on everyday family life in a family with 4 girls and parents wanting to raise respectable young women.  Betty remembers stories of going visiting on Sunday afternoons and attending church.
