Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Gainesville, GA.

What are some of your favorite memories from your childhood?  

Working at Piedmont Drugstore as a child. I used to ride my bicycle to deliver medicine for people that needed it.  We laughed and said he was like George in the movie, It’s a Wonderful Life!  They also had an Ice Cream Counter in the drug store.

What are some of your favorite memories from your adulthood?

Meeting my wife in Lula at a friend’s house. A friend sent Nell outside to my car to meet me and I asked her to marry me!  I wanted to get married before I left for the Marines!

Resident Spotlight: Ms. Wood

Ms. CIA is what you can call me. For most of my career and my husband’s career, we have been a part of the military, working and traveling over the world. I was born in Hapeville, Georgia and named Teresa Joiner.

Growing up in the south was so much fun, like looking for four leaf clovers with my grandmother, who lived across the field from us. My first job was a secretary for the FAA, then as a secretary at Pittsburgh Paint, where in 1967 I was crowned Miss PPG. I met a good looking chemist at Pittsburgh Paint, and he became my best friend and husband for 18 years.

Our Interview with Resident Roger Coleman Preu

Where did you grow up? Hartford Connecticut.  He grew up with one brother nine years older than him who is still living and doing very well.

What are some of your favorite memories from your childhood?

Roger states that while growing up he lived near a large city park and he played more in the park then he did at home.  In winter he would skate and play hockey on the frozen pond in the park.  He also loved working in the garden and his family raised chickens related to living through the great depression.

What are some of your favorite memories from your adulthood that you look back on from your home here at Dogwood Forest’s assisted living community in Stockbridge, GA?

Where did you grow up?

Macon, Georgia – born and raised

What are some of your favorite memories from your childhood?

My childhood was almost complete happiness. I received security and love from my parents. My dad made a Jungle Jim, playhouse with furniture, swing set and see-saw so all the children in the neighborhood came to play at our house. One of my first memories was “Aint” Charlotte, our maid, rocking me in her lap. 

What are some of your favorite memories from your adulthood that you look back on from your home now, in assisted living in Alpharetta?

I lived in Europe for 40 years – 2 in Paris, 4 in West Berlin, and 34 in London. I also traveled the world.
